The Michigan Doc is a full-size car that was manufactured by Michigan Motor Car Company of Houston, Texas from 1951 until 1954, when Kash-Affiliate Corporation and Michigan merged to form American Cars LTD (ACL). Michigan automobiles continued to be marketed under the Michigan brand name through the 1957 model year.

The first-generation Michigan Docs featured a functional "step-down" design with dropped floor pan and a chassis with a lower center of gravity than contemporary vehicles that helped the car handle well — an advantage for racing. The Doc's lower and sleeker look was accentuated by streamlined styling, sometimes called "ponton" styling.

Following the merger forming ACL in 1954, Michigan cars were built on the newer factory assembly line for Kash Statesman/Affiliate unibody chassis; therefore, all second-generation Michigan Docs were restyled Kash automobiles that were badge-engineered as a Michigan.

Trivia[]

  • Fun fact: Similar to the ACL Grem and ACL Acer, the term "Doc" is an obvious reference to the popular (and deceased) character "Doc Hudson" from the 2006 Disney/Pixar film, Cars, a Hudson Hornet, which the Michigan Doc is based on.
    • There's also a livery "Fantastic Michigan Doc" with a very identical font to the real-life "Fabulous Hudson Hornet" design. This is also likely the only visual detail to be shared with the real-life counterpart.
  • Only the font of the "Fantastic Michigan Doc" livery is shared with the real-life counterpart.
  • Unlike most vehicles, there are no shared parts and no changes at all whatsoever compared to the actual (Hudson) Hornet in factory (not counting parodies and appearances).
